Stephan Gärtner
Dr. Gärtner studied physics at the Universities of Heidelberg and Edinburgh with a focus on solid state physics. He obtained a Diploma and a Doctorate degree at the Max-Planck-Institute for Medical Research in Heidelberg in the fields of electronic transport and magnetic resonance properties of synthetic metals. More than two years of post-doctoral work focused on superconductivity followed at the Free University of Berlin.
Dr. Gärtner started his career in the field of intellectual property in 1993. He worked at the Technology Transfer Offices of both the University and the Research Center of Karlsruhe, now merged to the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. During this time, he was appointed member of the IP Committee of the European company KIC InnoEnergy SE which fosters innovation in the field of sustainable energy.
He was further involved in forming and developing the TLB GmbH, Germany’s first agency for invention and patent management related to universities. In 2013, Dr. Gärtner joined our team in Mannheim (formerly Herzog Fiesser & Partner).
His areas of expertise include the prosecution, defense, and licensing of inventions in physics, mainly in the fields of sensor technology, micro- and nanotechnology and sustainable energy, as well as employees’ invention law. Additionally, Dr. Gärtner has an appointment as contract lecturer on intellectual property rights at the University of Hohenheim.
