Dr Herwig studied physics with a focus on optics and computer science at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. In his diploma thesis he worked on the calibration of a laser Raman spectrometer. 

He then completed his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg in the field of experimental molecular physics and developed an innovative method for determining the chirality of molecules. Following this, he started his career in intellectual property law in a Mannheim law firm in 2016. He joined our team in Mannheim in October 2021. His main areas of practice include drafting and prosecuting patent applications and conducting opposition proceedings in the fields of physics, optics and mechanical engineering. One of his main areas of expertise is computer-implemented inventions.
